SALT
Sea
Because of the global warming of the earth extreme salty seas and extreme fresh seas arise. This happens because a lot of water evaporates, leaving the sea with more salt. All this evaporated water starts raining down on a different part of the sea, resulting in a more fresh part of the sea.
To investigate this researchers measured the salinity in different parts of the sea combined with the local temperatures. In total about 460.000 measurements were made.
It showed quickly that subtropical and evaporation dominated waters like the Indian ocean, Atlantic ocean and Pacific were saltier. The more tropical waters on higher width were less salty because there was less evaporation and more rain.
An interesting discovery was the movement of the salt. The research showed how the salt moved around with the water circulation. This shows that the change of salinity is not just on the surface, but also in the deep waters.
